Our Mission

Metropolitan Schoolhouse empowers diverse learners to succeed in the classroom and beyond.
Our whole-child, individualized curriculum provides the academic rigor our students deserve and the social-emotional support they need.

We serve students in Kindergarten through 12th grade who learn differently. We provide rigorous, individualized instruction that complements the therapeutic and clinical services many students receive. Our experienced and dedicated faculty understand how to recognize and cultivate each student’s talents and abilities so they can achieve their lifelong goals.

Learning Redefined

Located in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, Metropolitan Schoolhouse was established in 2013 under the core principle that customized curriculum and focused learning strategies are essential to the success of today’s youth.

From Our Community

It's hard to put into just a few words and to find words that don't sound over-the-top or clichéd (words like magical and miracle come to mind) to explain what Metro has done for our middle schooler in terms of their academic skills, confidence, social skills, executive functioning skills, and place in the world. We were asked early on in our journey as parents what our goals were for our neurodivergent child. At the time we said we wanted to ensure they could reach their full potential. The Metro community and culture has allowed our orchid to bloom so beautifully that they believe their difference in brain functioning is a superpower, rather than a deficit. We only wish Metro had a sister school for our neurotypical child. We are so thankful every day that Metro exists. The Metro approach incorporates experiences wherever possible, ensuring that students learn to navigate in unfamiliar settings. On an overnight camping trip with Metro, our son hiked 13 miles. On the five-day school trip to Texas, he stayed in a cabin with five schoolmates and had the time of his life. From the car wash next door (how to run a small business) to the Fischer House veterans’ visit on Veterans Day and museums across the city, the community is Metro’s classroom. My favorite thing about Metropolitan Schoolhouse is our approach to community development. We know our students both in and out of the classroom, which invites unique opportunities to take students' minds seriously and engage in meaningful teaching and learning experiences.
